This exhibition forms part of a series of exhibitions that will take place in 2011: Designs of time, Designs of living, Designs of nature and Designs of self. The idea is to link the four exhibitions in terms of how individuals live and ‘design’ their lives from within societies and how they operate in history, time and contexts.

In Designs of self the focus will broadly fall on various interpretations of identity, the body and cultural expression. The artists consider the self in relation to the world and the predicaments of the impact of technology on the individual and society; artificiality and the posthuman body; and boundary situations where the self is continually challenged and renegotiated.
